New Zealand has reported its first death from the Delta variant of coronavirus and 20 new cases on Saturday, all restricted to Auckland.
The patient who has died was a woman in her 90s who had several underlying health conditions, reported health officials. This is the first death due to COVID-19 in New Zealand since mid-February. NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern stated that every death reminds of the damage that COVID-19 can lead to by getting into the community. Meanwhile, the country seems to be breaking the chain of transmission of the Delta variant, with the figures reported on Saturday showing a decreasing trend observed in the recent days.
